Pachacuti Panama Hats

"Pachacuti is the UK’s only Fair Trade hat specialist, working directly with women's co-operatives in Ecuador. The panama hat supply chain has traditionally been controlled by middlemen, known as ‘perros’ (dogs in Spanish) due to their unscrupulous purchasing methods and weavers typically receiving a very low price for their skills. With a Pachacuti panama, the women carry out the entire production process from weaving to finishing and thus retain far more of the final value of the hat. [...]

The hats, which start at an affordable £37.50, can be bought via Pachacuti's webshop or in Pachacuti's shop in Ashbourne, Derbyshire, UK. Two styles (one pictured on the left) are currently also sold by People Tree.

Pachacuti ist ein zertifiziertes Fair Trade Unternehmen, das handgeflochtene Panama-Hüte aus Ecuador verkauft. Die Hüte stammen aus von Frauen geleiteten Kooperativen, die alle Arbeitsschritte vom Flechten bis zur Fertigstellung ausführen. Da keine Mittelmänner involviert sind, erhalten die Frauen einen besseren Preis für ihre Produkte. Des weiteren finanziert Pachacuti aus den Einnahmen einen Rentenplan, Fortbildungen und Gesundheitsvorsorgeuntersuchungen. Das Stroh für die Hüte kommt aus ökologischem, nachhaltigem Landbau auf Plantagen, die von Gemeinden gemeinschaftlich betrieben werden.

Alles in allem also ein 1a Fair Trade Produkt das noch dazu zu einem günstigen Preis (ab £37.50 im Pachacuti Webshop – ca. 43 Euro) angeboten wird. Falls ihr zufällig in Ashbourne, Derbyshire, UK vorbeikommen solltet: dort hat Pachacuti einen eigenen Laden. Außerdem werden im Moment zwei Modelle auch bei People Tree verkauft (leider recht hohe Versandkosten nach Dtl.) und wer nicht aus dem Ausland bestellen möchte, wird bei Plan International fündig, die in ihrem Webshop Modelle für Herren und Damen (um 30 Euro) verkaufen. Diese sind zwar nicht von Pachacuti stammen aber auch aus fairer Produktion in Ecuador.
