Oliberté

When I coincidentally came across Oliberté I thought that the company's fair trade credentials are just fab: they use natural rubber from Liberia for the soles and the shoes are produced in Ethiopia from local premium leather. The price is alright, too: around 100 Canadian dollars (= about 77 Euros). So far, so wonderful. But what about the design? If I find out about an interesting fair trade company I really, really want to like their products but would I buy Oliberté's womens' sneakers (last pair pictured)? No. Do I still think that they are a terrific fair trade company that everyone should support? Yes. Let's wait and see because they only just launched their first models this year and they will add different styles in the future.

Zufällig habe ich das Turnschuhlabel Oliberté entdeckt und mich gefreut, mal wieder ein „richtiges“ Fair Trade Label im Sinne von „Trade not Aid“ vorstellen zu können, das seine Schuhe in Afrika produzieren lässt. Die Turnschuhe von Oliberté werden in Äthiopien aus äthiopischem Leder und natürlichem Gummi aus Liberien (für die Sohlen) hergestellt. Die meisten Modelle kosten um die 80 Euro. So weit, so gut. Leider finde ich das Design der meisten Schuhe nicht besonders spannend. Wenn ich ein neues Fair Trade Label für meinen Blog finde, überlege ich zuerst, ob ich mir selber ein Produkt dieser Firma kaufen würde, aber bei Oliberté bin ich noch nicht fündig geworden. Trotzdem ist es ein tolles Unternehmen, das ich auf jeden Fall weiter beobachten werden und überhaupt: die ersten Modelle sind erst seit ein paar Monaten erhältlich und es wird zur Zeit an weiteren Designs gearbeitet.
