Bodkin's designer Eviana Hartman for Hess Natur

"Bodkin was named the inaugural recipient of the Ecco Domani Sustainable Design Award in 2009. Designer Eviana Hartman is also a writer; she was the fashion features editor at NYLON, fashion writer at Vogue and Teen Vogue, and the founding columnist of EcoWise in The Washington Post. She collaborated with designer Wendy Mullin on the Sew U series of books" And now she has designed a capsule collection for the fall/winter 2010/2011 catalogue of Hess Natur. First images of the collection will be available at the end of April. Hess Natur, Germany's market leader in organic fashion, has recently undertaken a series of measures to fight their old plain Jane image. In 2008 they hired Miguel Adrover on a five year contract as their new creative director and entered the US market. This year they are looking for new design talent via their Humanity in Fashion Award.
*****

Fair Trade Jewelry: Ten Thousand Villages

Lucky Americans and Canadians: you can shop at Ten Thousand Villages. Unfortunately, they do not ship to the rest of the world but it is great eye candy, no?
*****

Pachacuti Panama Hats

"Pachacuti is the UK’s only Fair Trade hat specialist, working directly with women's co-operatives in Ecuador. The panama hat supply chain has traditionally been controlled by middlemen, known as ‘perros’ (dogs in Spanish) due to their unscrupulous purchasing methods and weavers typically receiving a very low price for their skills. With a Pachacuti panama, the women carry out the entire production process from weaving to finishing and thus retain far more of the final value of the hat. [...]
Moreover, Pachacuti finances a pension scheme, training, capital expenditure, community development projects and health care such as eye exams and new glasses. [...] Paja toquilla [the straw] for our panama hats comes from organic, sustainable, community-owned plantations which are working to encourage biodiversity in coastal Ecuador." (www.panamas.co.uk)

The hats, which start at an affordable £37.50, can be bought via Pachacuti's webshop or in Pachacuti's shop in Ashbourne, Derbyshire, UK. Two styles (one pictured on the left) are currently also sold by People Tree.

*****
